In 2014, Adekunle took a significant step in his musical journey by going solo, disbanding from a group he formed while in school. He earned the moniker “King of Photoshop” after gaining attention for an edited image featuring him embracing Tiwa Savage on social media. However, his breakthrough came with the release of “Sade” on 19 December 2014, a highlife cover of One Direction’s “Story of My Life.” The song not only garnered critical acclaim but also earned a nomination for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015.

YBNL Nation and Debut Studio Album

Following the success of “Sade,” Adekunle Gold signed a record deal with YBNL Nation. His official debut single, “Orente,” was released on 5 March 2015, solidifying his position in the Nigerian music scene. Subsequently, he dropped his debut studio album, “Gold,” on 25 July 2016. The album, featuring 16 tracks, showcased Adekunle’s musical versatility and received positive reviews from critics. Unity Bank Ambassador and Departure from YBNL Nation

After parting ways with YBNL Nation due to the expiration of his contract, Adekunle Gold introduced his band, “The 79th Element,” named after the atomic number of gold. On 15 January 2018, he added another feather to his cap by becoming the brand ambassador for Unity Bank. Afro Pop Vol. 1 and Def Jam Recordings

In 2023, The Headies recognized Adekunle Gold as the Songwriter of the Year for his contribution to Simi’s “Loyal,” marking another milestone in his illustrious career.

In January 2019, Adekunle Gold tied the knot with fellow musician Simi after five years of dating. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in May 2020.
