Club Career

Lyn (2004–2007)

Chinedu Obasi’s professional journey commenced in Norway, where he joined Lyn. Alongside his countryman Mikel John Obi, they became significant additions to the team. Despite initial disputes about his transfer, Obasi quickly made his mark. He debuted for Lyn in 2004 and scored his first goal in September 2005. In the 2006 season, Obasi’s prowess became evident, scoring eight times in 15 appearances. His outstanding performance earned him the Young Player of the Year title. Although his move to Russia’s Lokomotiv Moscow was announced in 2006, it didn’t materialize due to a change in the club’s management. Subsequently, he signed a contract with Lyn until 2008. Despite interests from various European clubs, including Wigan Athletic, Manchester United, and Chelsea, he joined TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in August 2007.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (2007–2011)

Obasi’s time at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim was marked by outstanding performances. In his debut season, he scored twelve goals in 27 appearances, helping the club secure promotion to Bundesliga. Over the years, Obasi faced challenges, including injuries, but continued to contribute significantly to the team. In the 2009–10 season, he scored eight goals in 26 appearances. Despite some setbacks in the 2010–11 season due to injuries, he still managed to make valuable contributions to the team.

Schalke 04 (2011–2015)

In December 2011, Obasi joined Schalke 04 on loan, where he made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against Stuttgart. He permanently signed with Schalke 04 in July 2012. Despite injury setbacks, Obasi remained a key player. In the 2013–14 season, he scored his first goal in two years against his former club, Hoffenheim. His time at Schalke 04 ended in 2015 due to a shinbone injury, leading to the expiration of his contract. Throughout his tenure, Obasi exhibited talent and dedication.

AIK (2016 & 2017–2019)

Obasi joined AIK in 2016, contributing significantly to the team’s performance. After his short stint at Shenzhen, China, he returned to AIK in 2017. In 2019, he signed a one-year deal, marking his third spell with the club. During his time at AIK, Obasi exhibited his football prowess, making valuable contributions to the team’s success.

Bolton Wanderers (2018)

Obasi moved to English club Bolton Wanderers in March 2018. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make appearances for the team due to fitness issues. Consequently, he left the club when his contract expired in June 2018.

Elfsborg (2018)

After his tenure at Bolton Wanderers, Obasi signed with IF Elfsborg in Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top tier, for the remainder of the 2018 season.
