Hannatu Musa Musawa was born on 1 November 1974 in Katsina State, in northern Nigeria. She comes from a Hausa‑Fulani Muslim family, and her father was Alhaji Musa Musawa, a well‑known politician who belonged to the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) and later the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
