Mohammed Badaru Abubakar was born on 19 September 1962 in Babura, a town in northern Nigeria, now in Jigawa State. He comes from a Muslim family in the Babura local government area. He grew up with values about hard work, honesty, and caring for others. His home town is known for farming and trade.

Political Career
First Governorship Attempt (2011)
In April 2011, Badaru first tried to become governor of Jigawa State under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN). He lost to Sule Lamido of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who received about 676,000 votes compared to Badaru’s 343,000 votes.
Governor of Jigawa State (2015–2023)
In April 2015, running on the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, he was elected Governor of Jigawa State for the first time. He won with about 648,000 votes, defeating Aminu Ibrahim Ringim of PDP, who had about 479,000 votes.
He became governor on 29 May 2015, serving a full term until 29 May 2019, and he was re-elected in March 2019, winning with over 810,933 votes against PDP’s 288,356 and SDP’s 32,894 votes.
As governor, he started projects to create jobs, improve schools, health facilities, roads, and farming support in Jigawa State.
Minister of Defence (2023–now)
After completing two terms as governor, on 21 August 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him as Minister of Defence, a top position in Nigeria’s federal government.
Before that, he chaired presidential committees on fertilizer distribution and non-oil revenue for the federal government, which worked on helping farmers and raising government money beyond oil.
