Early Life

Vector’s early education took place in Nigeria, attending notable institutions such as Command Children School, Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Government College Victoria Island, and Saint Gregory’s College Ikoyi Lagos. His introduction to hip-hop began in 1994 during his junior high years, and by 1999, he formed the Badder Boiz duo. The group, comprising Vectorthaviper, Krystal, and Blaze, showcased their talents through self-written songs, eventually performing as a trio. However, in 2004, Krystal departed due to irreconcilable differences.

Transitioning to the University of Lagos, Vector pursued a degree in philosophy, graduating in 2008. His academic journey ran parallel to his budding passion for hip-hop, setting the stage for a career that would later propel him to national and international acclaim.

Career Beginnings

Vector’s official debut in the music scene occurred with the release of his first single, “Kilode,” from the album “State of Surprise” in February 2010. The album, released on October 29, 2010, featured collaborations with artists like 2 Face Idibia and General Pype. The success of his debut was followed by singles like “Mary Jane” and “Get Down,” the latter featuring 2Face Idibia.

His sophomore album, “The Second Coming” (2012), included the track “Born Leader,” featuring Mavado, showcasing Vector’s versatility. Over the years, he continued to release notable singles such as “Angeli” and “Mr. Vector,” both receiving significant airplay in Nigeria. In 2015, Vector dropped the rap single “King Kong,” accompanied by remixes featuring Phyno, Reminisce, Classiq, Uzi, and Sarkodie.

Striving for Excellence

Throughout his career, Vectorthaviper has actively sought to elevate Nigerian hip-hop. In 2018, he released the mixtape “The Rap Dialogue” as a testament to his commitment to the genre. His dedication to the craft led to the October 2018 release of “The Rap Dialogue,” a mixtape designed to invigorate the spirit of Nigerian hip-hop.

In 2019, Vector’s fourth studio album, “Vibes Before Teslim: A Journey to Self-Discovery,” showcased his evolution as an artist. Notably, he signed a joint venture with Starstruck Management Inc and Create Music Group for this project, underlining his commitment to artistic exploration and growth.

Controversies and Collaborations

Vector’s journey includes notable controversies, particularly his rap feud with Jude “M.I” Abaga. The publicized exchange of diss tracks like “The Purge” and “#JudasTheRat” captured the attention of the hip-hop community. However, in 2020, both artists seemingly reconciled during a Hennessy Nigeria documentary, opening the possibility of collaboration.

Reflecting on the feud in 2021, Vector acknowledged the commercial success it brought, emphasizing the demand for “beef tracks” by fans. This candid perspective shed light on the intricate dynamics between artistic expression and audience engagement.

Discography and Cinematic Ventures

Vectorthaviper’s discography reflects his diverse musical explorations. From his debut album “State of Surprise” to “Lafíaji” (2016) and the EP “The African Mind” (2020), each project reveals layers of his artistic evolution. The collaborative EP “Crossroads” with Masterkraft in 2020 and the album “Teslim: The Energy Still Lives in Me” in 2022 further cement his status as a dynamic force in the industry.

Beyond music, Vector ventured into the film industry, playing roles in films like “June” (2018) and “Lara & The Beat” (2018). His presence in TV series like “Shuga Naija” and “Shuga Naija: Alone Together Web Series” attests to his multifaceted talent.
