After completing his secondary education, he gained admission to the University of Lagos in 1983, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literary Studies in just three years. Black Activism
During his time at the university, his interest in black activism grew, particularly through his involvement in a reggae club. This interest deepened over the years, driven by his exposure to ideologies presented by figures like Oliver Thambo and representatives of the African National Congress (ANC) from South Africa during a club exhibition that focused on the theme of “Apartheid in South Africa.”
This exposure led him to explore the literature of prominent black activists such as Dennis Bruts, Wole Soyinka, and Muta Baruka, which further fueled his connection to reggae music. This connection was grounded in the belief that reggae was a powerful medium for expressing opposition against oppression. He also joined one of the campus confraternities, which at the time positioned themselves as advocates for anti-oppression initiatives.
Music Career
Buchi’s musical journey began when he worked as a Disc Jockey at a popular 1980s nightclub known as Floating Bukka, which was located on a docked vessel at Marina, Lagos Island. He was invited to join this gig by Ras Kimono. Currently, he is associated with the LoveWorld Music and Arts Ministry of Christ Embassy. In addition to his music, Buchi has authored two books, “Cease Fire” and “Born in Kaduna.”

Wife and Kids
Buchi has spent most of his life in Lagos, and he is married to Jane Atuonwu. The couple has four children, all of whom have featured on his musical projects, including the song ‘Normally’ on his 8th album, also titled ‘Normally.’
