Early Life and Family
Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin was born on February 15, 1971, in Burutu, Delta State, Nigeria. He is the founder and head prophet of Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry (CMDM). Omoto is the 22nd child in a polygamous family of 36 and was born to Livingston Stevenson Toboukeyei Fufeyin and Asetu. His educational journey began at Zuokumor Primary School and later Gbesa Grammar School Ojobo, where he completed his secondary education between 1981 and 1992.
Career
He was initially involved in the film exhibition business and local wrestling contests. However, Fufeyin’s life took a turn when he opened a mini supermarket and a patent medicine store. He played a significant role in introducing GSM to his riverine community and pioneered the use of motorcycles for transportation in his local government area.
Fufeyin transitioned to become a pastor and founded Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry on April 3, 2010. The church, starting with morning devotional worship, has grown rapidly, and now has over fifteen thousand members. He engages in philanthropy, regularly donating to orphans, widows, and the less fortunate. He considers Pastor Chris Oyakhilome as a spiritual father in ministry.
Controversies
Fufeyin faced criticism for his publicized charity acts and emphasis on demons and deliverance. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he donated N300 million to staff, church members, and the Nigerian government, returning tithes and offerings.
He has been accused of calling himself the first son of T.B. Joshua, which he vehemently denies, asserting respect for all men of God. His defense of Apostle Suleman Johnson during a sex scandal and a legal dispute with Pastor Johnmark Ighosotu added to the controversies.
Fire Incident
On March 22, 2023, Fufeyin’s church faced destruction by fire. He attributed it to disobedience to God’s instruction.
