Daddy Showkey, born John Odafe Asiemo on August 4, 1970, in Ajegunle, Lagos State, grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. Hailing from Olomoro Kingdom in Isoko South LGA of Delta State, Daddy Showkey became a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene.
Career
Showkey kickstarted his musical journey in the late 1990s, gaining popularity with his unique brand of music known as ghetto or galala. He pioneered Nigerian dancehall music, bringing a distinctive style to the industry. Unlike others who used Jamaican patois, Daddy Showkey sang in pidgin English. He is credited with inventing the “Galala” dance move, which quickly rose to prominence in the 1990s.
