His father, a junior officer, passed away at the age of 52, leaving his mother to single-handedly raise their children. Despite the challenges, his mother worked tirelessly to ensure that Fidelis and his siblings received a good education.
Fidelis grew up in a loving and supportive family, where education was highly valued. He attended primary school in Imo State and later proceeded to the College of Benin, where he graduated with a degree in Creative Arts in 1990 at the age of 24. He also studied at Harvard Business School, further equipping himself with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the business world.
Career
After completing his university education, Fidelis founded the Folio Media Group, a content creation and distribution company with its headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos. The company deals in print and packaging, multimedia distribution, occasions and leisure, and innovative solutions, among other things. His career in publishing began with the Daily Times, where he rose through the ranks quickly to become the company’s publisher. The experience he gained at the Daily Times was instrumental in his decision to launch his own company.
In 2007, Fidelis acquired the Daily Times Nigeria, the oldest newspaper in the country, which was founded in 1926. He revived the newspaper after it was shut down by the federal government, and it has since become one of the most profitable newspapers in Nigeria. Through the Daily Times, Fidelis owns the Times Heroes Award, Miss Nigeria Pageant, and Nigeria Our Heritage Grand book.
The Folio Media Group has several subsidiaries, including Times Multimedia, Folio Investment and Trading Company, Folio Communications PLC, and 1st October. Folio Communication is probably the biggest among his companies, and it is a digital communication company that aims to provide quality content using digital technology. The digital frontier gave the Daily Times its lost glory by relying on the digital revolution on the African continent to bring in new clients.
