Early Life

Abass Akande Obesere, popularly known by his stage name Omo Rapala, was born on January 20, 1965, in Ibadan, Oyo State. He attended St Paul Primary School in Ebute Metta, Lagos, and later Jubril Martins Secondary School in Ebute Metta for his secondary education.

Career

He is a renowned Nigerian Fuji musician, singer, and record producer. His unique music style and the use of slang in his songs have endeared him to fans, propelling him to the forefront of the Fuji music scene. Following in the footsteps of successful musicians like Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Obesere has taken his brand of Fuji music worldwide.

In his musical journey, he initially signed with Sony Music but later moved to other labels due to payment disputes. Over the years, he engaged in a long-time rivalry with K1 De Ultimate, another popular Fuji musician.

Describing his recent genre as Fuji Pop, a fusion of Fuji and Hip Hop, Obesere infused “vulgar” words into his songs, addressing taboo issues in the conservative Yoruba community. One of his notable albums, ‘Revolution,’ released in 2009, featured artists like 9ice, Lord of Ajasa, Timaya, Uncle Promise, Eazy Lizy, and young Trybson.

Despite facing a ghastly car accident in 2012 on his way to Lagos, Obesere survived with minor injuries. He is currently signed with Mayors Ville Entertainment, an artist management firm under the Maxgolan Entertainment Group.

In 2017, he signed a multi-million dollar recording deal with Freeworld Music, a US-based Nigerian record label company.
