Bright Okpocha, famously known as Basketmouth, was born on September 14, 1978, in Lagos State, Nigeria. Though born in Lagos, he hails from Abia State. Bright completed his primary and secondary education in Apapa, Lagos, before moving on to the University of Benin in Edo State. There, he pursued a degree in Sociology and Anthropology alongside his brother, Godwin.
During his formative years, Bright discovered his passion for drumming in 1991 and ventured into rapping in 1994. He formed a group called “Da Psychophats” in 1995, consisting of seven members, but unfortunately, they disbanded before releasing any songs. Undeterred, he formed another group, “Da Oddz,” with his brother Godwin and Muyiwa Ola-Phillips, but their brand of rap failed to gain traction in Nigeria.
