His early years were spent in Mushin, Lagos State, where he was single-handedly raised by his mother, Alhaja Adijat Kubura Odetola, fondly referred to as Iyawo Anobi. Pasuma often acknowledges his mother as his greatest support system in his musical journey.
He commenced his formal education at Muslim Mission Primary School in 1973 and later attended Nigerian Model High School, completing his secondary education.
Early Music Career
His foray into the music scene began during his secondary school days. While others engaged in sports, Pasuma, along with his friends, found solace in singing. His inspiration was drawn from K1 De Ultimate, his role model, who released the album “TALAZO 84” in 1984. This inspiration led Pasuma to start writing his own songs in 1984, and he officially launched his music career in 1993.
Career Highlights

Over the years, he has released more than 30 albums, solidifying his status as one of Nigeria’s most successful Fuji musicians. In addition to his solo work, Pasuma has collaborated with various artists, including Bola Abimbola and King Sunny Ade. He has also showcased his acting skills in Nigerian movies like “Iyanje” and “Alenibare.”
His achievements were recognized in 2015 when he won the Best Indigenous Artist of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards, surpassing notable artists like Olamide, Phyno, and Flavour.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Pasuma released the album “MMM” (Money Making Machine) to entertain his fans during a period of restrictions on gatherings. The album was a massive success and heightened his popularity, especially among those who perceived Fuji as a genre of the past.
In 2021, he received the Best International Music Video award at the Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards (HAPAwards).
The year 2022 saw Pasuma continue his musical journey with the release of the critically acclaimed Afro fuji single “Omo Ologo,” featuring Qdot.
