Sola Allyson-Obaniyi, known to many as Shola Allyson or Sola Allyson, was born on September 24, 1971, in Ikorodu, Lagos State. She is a renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter, specializing in soul, folk, and gospel music. Her breakthrough came with the release of the hit album “Eji Owuro” in 2003, which also served as the soundtrack for a movie of the same name. But Sola Allyson’s talents extend beyond singing. She is also a voice coach, counselor, and consultant. In addition, she has lent her musical prowess to create covers for Nigerian movies.

Education

Turning the pages back to her early life and education, Sola Allyson Obaniyi’s journey began in Ikorodu, Lagos State, during the early 1970s. She received her primary education at Anglican Primary School, Ikorodu, before moving on to Shams-el-deen Grammar School, Ikorodu, for her secondary education. Her educational path then led her to Government Technical College, Agidingbi, Ikeja, where she pursued Business Studies and earned an NBTE Certificate.

In 1997, she embarked on a new chapter by enrolling at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, to study Music Technology, majoring in Voice and minoring in Music. During this period, she had the privilege of being mentored by a music professional named Oluwole Oladejo Adetiran, which greatly influenced her musical career. Sola Allyson’s musical journey traces back to the late 1980s when, at the tender age of thirteen, she began as a backup singer. She honed her skills and became a professional backup singer, collaborating with well-known artists like Yinka Ayefele, Gbenga Adeboye, Pasuma, Obesere, and Daddy Showkey.

Her transition from a backup singer to a solo artist came unexpectedly. One day, she met a man on a public bus who had a movie script. They struck up a conversation, and he shared details about a recently completed film shoot titled “Orekelewa.” He recognized Sola Allyson’s talent and asked her to sing a soundtrack for the film, which ultimately led to a change in the film’s title to “Eji Owuro.” When the film “Eji Owuro” was released, the studio decided to produce a full music album for it. Throughout her career, Sola Allyson has earned recognition and nominations in the music industry.
