Career

Adekunle Adeyoola, professionally known as Soul Snatcha, is a Nigerian gospel rap artist, actor, and the CEO of Assalt TV. He is a part of the duo known as Rooftop MCs, which released singles like “Lagimo” featuring Cobhams and “Shock Therapy.” These singles received nominations for The Headies Award for Best Rap Single in 2008.

The name “Rooftop MCs” was inspired by the Bible verse Matthew 27:10, and the group released four albums, including “Shock Therapy,” “The 2nd First Impression,” “Minority Report,” and “Back At One,” along with several other singles.

In 2020, he released the “Drunken Masters: Live” album and various singles, including “Mighty God (Drunk’n Worship)” with Nikki Laoye and “Children of God” featuring Angeloh. Snatcha and his wife had four children, but she sadly passed away in November 2019.

Controversy

Soul Snatcha, a gospel singer and former member of Rooftop MCs, emphasized that Christians don’t believe they should pay for gospel music. His decision to relocate to the United Kingdom in 2011 was driven by a desire to maintain his relationship with God. He acknowledged that if he had remained in Nigeria, he might have achieved greater financial success but at the cost of his spiritual connection.

The Rooftop MCs, who gained fame in 2008 with their hit track “Lagimo,” experienced a period of obscurity. Soul Snatcha clarified that they didn’t break up; instead, they were guided by a divine directive to pursue individual musical paths.

He says Rooftop MCs still exists, but they no longer do music together. In 2010, his partner, Sokleva, received divine inspiration to leave the country and they found themselves individually, as directed by God. Their relationship is still strong, and they maintain regular contact.

Soul Snatcha also highlighted the challenges faced by gospel artists, including the lack of early support from the church and the misconception that gospel music should be free. He stressed the importance of recognizing that music production involves costs, and artists should be compensated for their work.
