Mairo Ese – Gospel Artist

Mairo Ese, whose full name is Oghenemairo Okechukwu Ese, and who is also popularly known as Mairo Ese, was born on May 27, 1982. He is a Nigerian songwriter and gospel singer. He gained recognition for his hit songs “Nani Gi” and “You Are The Reason.” In 2015, he released his first album, titled “Worship of Yahweh.”

Early Life

He is the first of four children, with three siblings. His father was a businessman, and his mother worked as an accountant at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA). Their family lived a modest and content life, valuing the importance of contentment and sharing, regardless of their financial status. Their home was always open to both family and strangers, and his parents were known for nurturing and caring for many. The relationship between him and his siblings, Kome, Orez, and Oruaro, has always been strong, and the sudden loss of their father two decades ago brought them even closer as a family.

Education

His educational journey began at Delta State University, and later, he transferred to the University of Lagos to pursue his first degree. In his childhood, his dreams revolved around attending university, graduating, securing a 9-5 job, and making money. He also nurtured a dream of playing professional football, as he is a devoted Arsenal fan (COYG!). His aspirations were all about achieving a better life than what he had experienced growing up. He longed to travel the world and live comfortably.

Music Career

His musical journey began in 1998 when he joined a choir for the first time and he gave his life to Christ as a teenager. Although he did not anticipate a full-time career in music at the time, he discovered his love for singing during secondary school. In university, he became part of the Sovereign Army Student Fellowship Choir and joined a worship team called Euphoria, where they poured their hearts into worship.

Later, he completed his National Youth Service (NYSC) in Kaduna and served in the choir at the House on the Rock church in Jos. Upon returning to Lagos after NYSC, he was offered a full-time position as a Worship Leader at This Present House, which led to his full-time commitment to ministry. 

In 2005, Mairo Ese officially started his music career with the release of his first single, “We Praise You.” In 2014, he released another single, “You Are The Reason.”

In September 2015, he released his debut album, “Worship of Yahweh,” which included tracks like “Ole Hallelujah” featuring Nathaniel Bassey, “Nani Gi,” and “Come Boldly.” His second album, “Spirit and Life,” was released in September 2020, consisting of 12 tracks.

Projects

In June 2022, Mairo Ese initiated a music project called “The Equipping (Tongues and Chants),” which involved a live recording aimed at helping people engage in an hour of prayer and chanting in tongues. He has collaborated with notable gospel artists such as Nathaniel Bassey, Nosa, TY Bello, and others.

His music primarily consists of praise and worship, aiming to encourage people to recognize God’s greatness and power. It’s an expression of his personal journey with God.
